drugs used as a weapon

A Burmese dealer arranges chunks of jade at a market stall in Mandalay.

There wanton obloquy of people around the world is ubiquitous. At this point, we are forced to focus only on the most extreme human rights violations. But it is important to remember, we all deserve respect, equality, and even assistance. It is troubling to come to terms with the tension resulting from an internal desire to enjoy a blithe existence and the contrition of knowing and not doing.

Quote of the Day

“When the tyrant has disposed of foreign enemies by conquest or treaty and there is nothing to fear from them then he is always stirring up some wary or other in order that the people may require a leader.”
Plato

“What happens to people living in a society where everyone in power is lying, stealing, cheating and killing, and in our hearts we all know this, but the consequences of facing all these lies are so monstrous, we keep on hoping that maybe the corporate government administration and media are on the level with us this time.
Americans remind me of survivors of domestic abuse.
This is always the hope that this is the very, very, very last time one’s ribs get re-broken again. ”
Inga Muscio, Cunt: A Declaration of Independence

Well… Now blacks, whites, women and men can all be beaten by police equally

“Those who surrender freedom for security will not have, nor do they deserve, either one.”
Benjamin Franklin

On Dec 6th Berkeley students protested peacefully. This is what happened. It seems Spain is following us instead of us following them, they are just official about it.

Police continue to assault peaceful demonstrators while corporate news media censors the violence. At 5PM on 12/6/14, hundreds of UC Berkeley students and Berkeley residents began a peaceful march from Sproul Plaza to the Berkeley Marina to protest the deaths of Michael Brown, Eric Garner, Tamir Rice, and countless other brown and black youth at the hands of police.  Excerpt from this site

Quote of the Day

“If you quietly accept and go along no matter what your feelings are, ultimately you internalize what you’re saying, because it’s too hard to believe one thing and say another. I can see it very strikingly in my own background. Go to any elite university and you are usually speaking to very disciplined people, people who have been selected for obedience. And that makes sense. If you’ve resisted the temptation to tell the teacher, “You’re an asshole,” which maybe he or she is, and if you don’t say, “That’s idiotic,” when you get a stupid assignment, you will gradually pass through the required filters. You will end up at a good college and eventually with a good job.”
Noam Chomsky

Journalists in DANGER

Journalists are SERIOUSLY undervalued. They put themselves in harm’s way to give at-risk people a voice. All over the world they face death and imprisonment. Take a moment to give them the respect and recognition they deserve but don’t expect. Its a dangerous job, but someone’s got to do it.

Loud Thoughts Voiced Out

Glossophobia. Do you know what that means? I didn’t. In my first year at university, I stood in front of my entire class and instead of flawlessly explaining the cultural differences, I froze. Two weeks later I wrote a very long paper on that word. Glossophobia – The fear of public speaking.

We humans do this very often. We tend to not notice something until we have the need to do so. There aren’t a lot of things on this planet we learn about willingly.

Unfortunately, the people that aren’t a part of our lives fall under that category.

If you had looked at my History book at the end of an academic year, it would have looked brand new. I hated history. I was very clear – Somebody killed somebody. They’re both dead and I couldn’t care less.

And I know there are a lot of people that agree…
